Praia do Espelho is the postcard people see before they come: white and red cliffs, leaning coconut palms and, at low tide, natural pools that form among the rocks. That is where the name comes from — still water mirroring the sky.
It is not a village but a stretch of coast with a few scattered houses and a handful of restaurants right on the sand. There are no shops, no pharmacy and no bank. People staying here come by car, or arrange everything in advance.
Check the tide table before choosing your day: the natural pools only exist at low tide, and they are what people come to see.
Getting there. About 50 minutes from Trancoso on a dirt road that turns bad after heavy rain. A high-clearance car helps.
