Far south of Bahia
Holiday homes in Santo André
River, sea and unhurried days.
Santo André sits at the mouth of the João de Tietê river, facing Santa Cruz Cabrália. You arrive by ferry, and the crossing sets the tone: on the other side the streets are sand, cars all but disappear and the village moves at the pace of someone with nowhere to be.
The beach runs long to the north, coconut palms and almost nobody, all the way to the sands of Guaiú. On the river, late afternoon belongs to canoes and people fishing; in the sea, the water is warm and shallow, good for children.
The village has guesthouses, a few good restaurants and a small market for day-to-day needs. Porto Seguro is under an hour away — but nobody takes the ferry back before the stay is over.
Getting there. About 40 minutes from Porto Seguro to Santa Cruz Cabrália, plus the ferry crossing over the João de Tietê river.
